Coley

A less overfished relative of cod

Coley is a white roundfish of the cod family.

It is less flavoursome and has a coarser texture than its more popular cousins cod and haddock, but because of this it hasn't suffered from overfishing to the same extent and so is increasingly popular as an environmentally sound choice of fish.

Coley is an ideal white fish to include in stews, pies and other dishes where using the increasingly luxurious cod might be a waste and extravagance, especially if you can get hold of fresh coley.

It is however most commonly found frozen, or as part of processed fish dishes.
