A flowering herb traditionally used to make wine
Cowslip is a once common herb that was traditionally used to make cowslip wine, but it is now rarely found in the wild, as modern farming practices have removed much of its natural habitat.
It is now illegal to pick wild cowslip plants, but it can be grown for culinary use quite easily in your garden or windowbox.
As well as being used for wine, the flowers are edible and make an attractive addition to salads, with a slightly sweet honey taste.
The leaves can also be used in this way, having a fairly neutral taste in comparison to most other culinary herbs.
