Pasta shape similar to spaghetti
Linguine is a long, thin pasta shape similar to spaghetti, although it is flattened rather than rounded and so slightly less substantial.
Its lightness means it's best suited to more delicate sauces with a coating consistency, and it is often served with seafood in one form or another, especially clams (vongole).
Linguine originally comes from the Campania region of Italy, and the name comes from the Italian for 'little tongues'.
