Sour fruit often made into preserves or jellies
The quince tree is a small tree which has been cultivated in Britain since Roman times. It is a member of the rose family, and is often used as an ornamental shrub, but also produces small pear-shaped fruits.
Quince fruits are too hard and sour to be eaten raw, but are good made into preserves and jellies, which are particularly suited to eating with cold cuts of meat.
