Padstow-based TV chef best known for seafood
Rick Stein is a 'celebrity chef' who is probably most associated with seafood, as a result of both his ownership of The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall, and his TV series such as A Taste of the Sea, A Seafood Odyssey, and Seafood Lover's Guide.
His later programmes have however widened in scope, dealing with artisanal, ethical and local food production in two series of Food Heroes, and a homage to French regional cooking in French Odyssey.
Stein first appeared on television in an episode of Keith Floyd's Floyd On Fish, which was produced and directed by David Pritchard who would later go on to produce and direct Stein's own TV output.
Although born and raised in Oxfordshire, it is Padstow in Cornwall with which he is most strongly associated. His mini-empire in the fishing port currently includes his flagship Seafood Restaurant, a fish and chip shop, a delicatessen with a wet fish counter, a cafe, a bistro, and a patisserie.
He was awarded the OBE in 2003 for services to Cornish tourism.
