Wagyu Beef

Wagyu is made by cows raised in a life of luxury

Wagyu is an expensive type of beef originating in Japan, sometimes known as the 'caviar of beef' or Kobe-style beef.

It is made from cows of a particular breed raised with extraordinary care in luxurious surroundings, and the result is meat which many consider to be the most tender and succulent in the world.

Among the luxuries enjoyed by Wagyu cows are regular massages, sometimes with sake, and a diet based on beer and grain.

The end result, when combined with the natural characterisitics of the Wagyu breed, is densely marbled beef and it is this marbling which gives a richness and tenderness its advocates say is second to none.

Once a rarity outside Japan, Kobe-style beef is becoming fasionable in the west and can be found in increasing numbers of top-end restaurants whose customers are prepared to pay a hefty premium to sample the delicacy.

Wagyu beef can also now be found raised outside of Japan, although legally it can only be made using the traditional breed of cow and the traditional practices.
