'A natural superfood'
Watercress is a dark green leaf of the mustard familiy commonly used in salads and soups, and is widely acknowledged to be a 'superfood' with high levels of nutrients, minerals and health-protecting compounds.
Watercress requires a constant supply of running water to grow, and can naturally be found by the side of streams, springs and brooks, but commercially it is normally grown with mechanised irrigation systems.
Watercress, like other kinds of cress, has a peppery, slightly metallic taste, and can often be found mixed with spinach and rocket leaves in salad bags.
