Za'atar

A nutty, tangy, herby Middle Eastern flavouring

Za'atar is a simple mix of herbs and spices that is widely used in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and many other countries of the Middle East.

It consists of a mixture of thyme, sesame, sumac and salt, and is used as a general flavouring and as a topping for pitta bread or other flatbreads.

The flavour is best described as at once tangy, nutty, and herbal.
