Zander

A freshwater fish also known as pike-perch

Zander is a freshwater fish found in lakes and rivers across continental Europe. Although not a species native to Britain, it has become fairly well established here since being introduced to our waterways in the 1960s.

It is more commonly known to us as pike-perch because of its similarity to these two more familiar freshwater fish, which can both be used instead if zander is unavailable.
